Coming to New Zealand in 1997, I didn’t plan to seed my fortune in the hospitality sector initially. However, as I dug deeper into the field, I found the joy of exploring and the sense of creativity in cooking. And so, the story began!
But the fairy tale didn’t start that easily. I couldn’t afford to have my own restaurant. Instead, I started working for different restaurants around Wellington and immersed myself in other Asian cuisines including Thailand, Hongkong, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Vietnam.
In 2009, the previous owner of Asian Kitchen was looking to sell the business and I made a big leap to invest all my savings to fund what felt like an impossible dream.
We are now one of Wellington’s best Asian restaurants.
At that time, Asian Kitchen was already a restaurant that offered cuisines from different countries. As I have gained a lot of experience through all the previous years, I didn’t have any problem taking over the business.

Our customers don’t come and go. Our customers stay and I’m proud and happy to serve them again and again as friends of the business. There are so many people that don’t even read the menu when they visit because they know what they want, they know the reason they are here and I also know what they want.

After taking over, I started adding more options to the menu, making it more diverse to truly reflect the name of the restaurant – Asian Kitchen. Since then, the menu has grown to include more dishes from China, Thailand, and especially Vietnam where I came from. Yet, I didn’t plan to turn it into a Vietnamese restaurant, I dream of bringing all the beautiful dishes from different countries together. All the years of hard work have shown the beauty of different cultures and I wanted to continue cherishing what I have learned.
After years, Asian Kitchen has now established a great position among the customers of the Wellington Region. Yes, you didn’t read it wrong, it’s Wellington Region!
